Cambridge Orthopaedic Club 2016

Dear All,

st_johns_collegeThe time has come for you to be thinking about the Cambridge Orthopaedic Club presentation day… this year the meeting will be held at St John’s College on Sat 19th March 2016. Mr Bowditch is also the president this year.

The evening will start with a drinks reception from 7.00pm in Trinity College, with guests seated for dinner in the Great Hall at 7.45pm. The dress code is black tie.

As always everyone will need to submit an abstract of suitable academic work to present. The work may have been presented elsewhere, but should not have been presented at an East Anglian Orthopaedic Club or COC event before. I will then pass them on to the ‘papers committee’ to select those to be presented.

Please send me your 150 word abstract as a word document by February 8th. For those new on the rotation please be aware that the COC afternoon paper session is compulsory. Mr Bowditch has asked me to let him know who has and who hasn’t submitted an abstract. You will need a very good reason if you haven’t!

The meeting format has been changed this year. On top of Registrar papers, we have external speakers including Pete Bates from the Royal London and Fergall Monsell From Bristol.

Trainer of the year is also awarded at the COC dinner so please let me have your nominations. This year I have put together another survey for you all to complete. I will pass the result on to Mr Bowditch. I will send out a survey monkey link in due course.

great hallThe optional COC dinner is a great event! It includes a 4 course dinner, drinks reception, drinks during dinner and drinks after dinner in the grandest of all of the Oxbridge colleges. I have been every year since I started my rotation… it is an opportunity for you to socialise with the other trainees as well as your trainers past and present. I would strongly encourage you to attend as this is our main annual event. Partners are very welcome and actively encouraged. If you want a ticket please fill in the attached form. (Although it says £65 on the form, trainees are a bargain £60…..)

I hope to see you all there and wish you all a Happy New Year!
