Dear all

Thanks for the feedback from the teaching at Harlow on the 9th March. Messrs Mahaluxmivala & Kutty put on a great day, catering for the previous ST3/4 requests for more tailored teaching towards the grade of ST, which in addition to their usual high quality teaching earned them significant praise.

This was on the back of the DCO course in February at the Evelyn, which was oversubscribed but great fun and educational for both the delegates and multidisciplinary faculty. Thanks to Mr Queally for helping to set up a course that we will repeat in 12-18months. Once again, the feedback was extremely positive and will help us to fund future courses when we apply for them from the deanery.

Next is the Cambridge Orthopaedic Club, on Saturday 1st April – and the abstracts for the presentations appear stimulating. Please ensure that you have purchased your tickets for the dinner by this Friday 24th March, as Mr Rawal doesn’t like sharing his food.

Then we have the West Suffolk teaching on Tuesday April 11th and another cadaveric course – Arthrex supported shoulder arthroscopy day on Tuesday 23/5/17.

There is no clinical teaching day in May, as the next one will be in Ipswich on Friday 2nd June.

There will be a large faculty on the arthroscopy course and along with the open shoulder approaches & arthroplasty day in September, these days will form a large part of the shoulder curriculum for the next 3 years!

As such, we cannot afford to run the courses every year and will continue to have the sub specialty courses every third year to maximise our limited budget & faculty.

With that in mind it is imperative that attendance at the teaching days is maximal as Harlow only had 25 registrars attending.

If the same happens with West Suffolk, Ipswich and the cadaveric courses then we will be unable to run them in the future and will have to look at other training methods such as self directed learning.

You are being provided ample notice and now being given an agenda months in advance. If you perceive that there is still a significant barrier to your attendance please let me know asap and I shall take it forward to the TPD, in order to prioritise your training needs.

Carpe Diem

Niel Kang
