Cheese and Wine – 24th November – Cambridge

Dear Colleagues

RE: Combined funding for higher orthopaedic surgical training and research meetings

We have been in touch with Orth North who are a very successful region in relation to gaining funding to support their teaching, courses and conferences.

The problem

Currently we raise funds on an adhoc basis, which is somewhat disorganised and chaotic. The negotiating of such funds both from companies for funding and with venues/caterers for events is variable. This potentially means that we may not be getting as much as we could from the manufacturing companies and a more structured approach would be beneficial.

We need funds for

·       Monthly teaching days

·       Cadaver days

·       Cambridge Orthopaedic Club

·       East Anglian Orthopaedic Club

·       Orthopaedic Abroad Program to support trainees on OOPT/E/R in developing countries

The Solution

We have spoken about this with a number of you who are supportive.

The plan is to launch an award type system for companies who are willing to support our program, with bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards. These are paid annually and would cover all of the above.

The more you pay the more representation you get at teaching, conferences and on the website (currently getting over 100,000 hits per month).

To launch this we thought we could organise a cheese and wine evening and invite as many company representatives (ideally people with decision making power) as possible who work in our region, invite all of the trainers/AES who support the program/involved in the above events and a few keen trainees to present our idea to the companies.

The date for the cheese and wine evening is Friday 24th November at the Deakin centre Cambridge – please let me know if you are available?

Yours truly,

Ross
